AI Tool Routes

AI ToolsCross-Border Routing

The goal is not to chase the momentary speed of a particular route, but to keep the exit region, IP environment and session path consistent. Web chats, streaming replies, API calls and IDE plugins do not all require the same connection setup.

Why AI tools care more about route consistency

When visiting a standard webpage, a brief exit change usually causes only one reload. AI tool connections are longer: login state, conversation context, streaming responses, file uploads, model requests and content downloads may rely on separate connections. If those connections repeatedly change region or exit during one session, the page may still open while login confirmation, message submission or response delivery fails independently.

Region checks usually happen beyond the homepage. Account login, workspace loading, model-list retrieval and request submission may all recheck the current network environment. Being able to open a product page does not guarantee that later actions will work smoothly. First confirm the target service’s regional access conditions, then choose a suitable exit with minimal switching and keep it unchanged throughout the work session.

IP risk controls focus on whether activity remains consistent. Rapid jumps between regions, using different exits for browser and API traffic, or sending a request from another route immediately after web login can trigger extra verification. There is no need to keep chasing a node that merely appears faster. A stable route that performs normally is generally better for ongoing conversations and development work than switching among multiple nodes.

Tool differences

Choosing routes for ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini

All of these tools depend on a stable exit, but failures can occur at different points. Separate “Can the webpage load?” from “Can the request return completely?” when troubleshooting.

ChatGPT

The web app depends on the account session, conversation requests and streaming replies at the same time. If the page loads normally but the reply remains stuck, check whether the persistent connection was interrupted before refreshing repeatedly. Failed file uploads or history loading may also result from an exit change within the same session.

API calls do not depend on the browser page, but the terminal, runtime and system proxy must point to the same working path. Restoring the web app does not mean a CLI process has inherited the new proxy configuration.

Claude

With Claude, pay particular attention to consistency between the exit region and IP environment. Switching to a distant region after login may trigger another check or leave workspace loading stuck. Long conversations last longer, making them more sensitive to interruptions midway through the stream.

For developer calls, generation requests and related tool calls should use the same exit. If only some requests fail, first verify the network path actually used by the running process, then check the account and request parameters instead of attributing every issue to the route.

Gemini

Gemini has a close relationship between the account session, web resources and model requests. If the browser retains a login state from an old region after the network exit changes, resources may load incompletely, the model entry may disappear or the request may require another check.

In this situation, fix the exit first, then reload the relevant account session. For development environments, also check that the SDK, terminal and container use the same proxy settings; do not rely only on the browser connection result.

Copilot

Copilot is often used with a webpage, editor and developer-platform account working together. Even after account login succeeds, the editor extension may be unable to send requests because it has separate network settings. Check the system proxy, editor proxy and environment inherited by the extension process separately.

If code completion stops occasionally while the webpage remains accessible, check whether the persistent connection was interrupted and confirm that the extension is not bypassing the current route with a direct connection. Before reauthorizing, fix the network path to avoid unnecessary changes to account state.

Midjourney

Image-generation workflows involve more than submitting a prompt: they also load previews, upload assets and download results. If the text interface opens but image resources fail to load, check whether static-resource connections use the same exit as the main session.

Switching nodes during an upload can force the connection to be rebuilt. For larger assets, keep the route stable and avoid enabling multiple system or browser proxies that could override one another.

Cursor

Cursor combines editor login, model requests, code-context uploads and streaming output in one workflow. After browser authorization, the desktop app still needs independent access to the relevant services. If the route covers the browser but not the application process, the usual result is a successful login followed by a conversation that cannot start.

In team projects, also check whether terminal tasks and the editor itself use matching network settings. The integrated terminal, external terminal and extension host may read different environment variables, so verify them one by one.

Route comparison

Tool × route requirements

The table focuses on connection characteristics and does not mean every tool offers the same features in every region. Actual availability remains subject to the service’s regional rules and account status.

Tool Primary network requirements Prioritize Check after switching routes
ChatGPT Keep the account session, streaming replies and file transfers consistent Routes with a stable exit and reliable persistent connections Reload the session and confirm that replies continue streaming
Claude Keep the region and IP environment consistent without changing routes mid-conversation A fixed-region route with minimal switching Workspace, conversation history and streaming responses
Gemini Keep the account state, web resources and model-request path consistent A route with a clear region and complete web-resource loading Account session, model access and request submission
Copilot Use the same network environment for web authorization and the editor extension A route that supports persistent connections and covers the application process Extension authorization, code completion and editor proxy
Midjourney Keep prompt, image resources, upload and download paths stable A route with complete resource connections and minimal switching during transfers Preview images, asset uploads and result downloads
Cursor Keep the desktop app, extension host and terminal configuration consistent A fixed route that covers the application and development processes App login, model requests and integrated terminal

Registration, login and session recovery

Before registering for or logging in to an AI tool, decide which exit region you plan to use long term. Do not keep switching nodes after the account page loads. If the login flow redirects to another page, make sure requests before and after the redirect continue through the same route. When system and extension proxies are enabled together, confirm that they do not send different requests through different exits.

After login, first check that the workspace, history and model entry load normally before starting a long conversation or uploading files. If the page repeatedly asks for confirmation, stop switching routes, close duplicate page sessions and reopen it with a fixed exit. Clearing all site data usually should not be the first step because it also removes the existing session and adds more variables to the investigation.

VPNLP requires no email address; a username and password are enough to register. After getting a subscription, you can use it on Windows / macOS / iOS / Android / Linux. There is no device limit for working across multiple devices, but when devices participate in the same development workflow, using exits in the same region is recommended to reduce differences between web authorization and development processes.

Web and API

The web app and API calls do not use the same path

The web app uses the browser to manage account state, cookies, page resources and streaming responses. Once the system proxy is configured correctly, the browser will usually follow the system route, but browser extensions, privacy settings or an existing session can still change the actual path. When troubleshooting, identify whether the problem occurs during login, resource loading, request submission or response delivery; do not judge only by whether the homepage opens.

API calls are made by a specific process. CLI tools, SDKs, background tasks, containers and remote development environments may not inherit the desktop system’s proxy settings. If the browser can chat normally while the terminal keeps timing out, the terminal process likely is not using the same network path, or the runtime still has an old configuration. After changing settings, restart the relevant processes so environment variables and connection pools are rebuilt.

Streaming interfaces depend more on connection persistence than ordinary short requests. If a submitted request stops midway through the response, first check route changes, system sleep, network transitions and proxy reconnection. If a non-streaming request fails outright, investigate DNS, the process proxy, exit region and account permissions separately. The troubleshooting path differs between the two failure types.

Development environment

CLI, IDE plugins and CI configuration

Command line

First confirm that the current shell reads the proxy environment variables, then check whether the language runtime, package manager and calling tool respect them. Restart the terminal after configuration changes so an old process does not continue reusing its existing connections. Check remote and local shells separately.

IDE plugins

The editor itself, extension host and integrated terminal may use different settings. After completing web authorization, return to the editor to check the plugin login state and confirm that model requests are sent through the current route. If only the plugin fails, check the editor proxy first instead of changing accounts.

CI and remote tasks

CI tasks run in an independent environment and do not automatically use the local computer’s network configuration. Explicitly check the executor’s region, exit path, environment-variable injection and secret management. Logs should distinguish network timeouts, permission denials and program errors so repeated retries do not hide the real cause.

# Example: indicates the configuration location only; it does not contain a real service address
export HTTPS_PROXY="http://127.0.0.1:YOUR_PORT"
export HTTP_PROXY="$HTTPS_PROXY"

# After starting a new terminal process, run the relevant AI client or development task
Troubleshooting

Common failure symptoms and causes

The page opens, but the reply keeps waiting

Common causes include a streaming connection that was never established, a connection rebuilt midway or a browser session that does not match the current exit. Fix the route, reopen the conversation page and test with a short prompt. If short replies work but long replies stop, continue checking sleep, network changes and proxy connection persistence.

Login succeeds, but the desktop app still shows disconnected

Web authorization and the desktop app may use different network paths. Check whether the application process uses the system proxy, then restart the app with a fixed route. Do not switch nodes during the authorization redirect.

The browser works, but CLI requests fail

The terminal process may not have inherited the proxy variables, while a container or remote host may use an independent exit. Check the network configuration in the environment that actually runs the request rather than looking only at the local browser.

Text responses work, but images or files fail

Static resources, upload connections and conversation requests may use different resource paths. Confirm that the browser extension is not routing those requests separately, and keep the route unchanged during asset transfers.

Repeated confirmation requests after switching nodes

A change in exit region over a short period can break session consistency. Stop switching, rebuild the session in a fixed region and wait for the page state to load completely before taking the next action.

IDE completion stops, but web chat works

The editor extension may use a separate proxy or retain an old connection. Check the editor network settings, extension login state and extension-host process, then fully restart the editor after making changes.

Final choice

Choose a route for the task instead of switching nodes repeatedly

For web conversations, prioritize a route with a clear region, complete page resources and continuous streaming. For API and CLI work, also confirm that the process actually running the request can inherit the proxy settings. With development tools such as Cursor and Copilot, treat browser authorization, the editor, extension host and terminal as separate connection entry points and verify each one.

Long conversations, code generation, image uploads and CI tasks are not good times to change exits. If the current route handles login, requests and responses reliably, keep using it. When a problem occurs, record which stage failed before switching to another route in the same region; consider changing regions only when the regional conditions do not match.
